Homecoming 2020

Homecoming 2020

Homecoming Weekend Update

The past several months have been unlike anything we have ever experienced before due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but we are still #WarriorStrong and hope to bring you a great Homecoming 2020 celebration despite a few necessary modifications to our traditional schedule! In order to plan accordingly for the safety, health, and comfort of all Warriors, we have decided to postpone our larger celebrations, including in-person class reunions, the annual Hall of Fame Banquet and the Alumni and Legacy Awards Luncheon, until next year’s Homecoming scheduled for October 2021. In the meantime, we will be adding some new socially distanced engagement opportunities, including a drive-thru tailgate, a “Midland at the Movies” drive-in movie night, and outdoor worship. Additionally, we are excited to announce that several new and traditional homecoming experiences will be digitally delivered and/or live streamed this year, including the Homecoming football game against Hastings College!

We look forward to celebrating with all of you online or in person this fall from October 9-11th. Although the weekend may look different, the spirit of homecoming will remain the same as we deliver a fun and engaging alternative to coming “home” to Midland this year. Continue to follow our @MidlandUAlumni Facebook and Twitter pages to stay up to date on upcoming events and announcements and be on the lookout for a full Homecoming Weekend schedule coming soon at alumni.midlandu.edu or in your mailbox! Please reach out to the Alumni Office with questions via email at alumni@midlandu.edu.

Are ALL in-person Homecoming Weekend events canceled?

All traditional ALUMNI in-person Homecoming events are canceled or postponed, including in-person class and affinity based reunions, the Hall of Fame Banquet, and the Alumni & Legacy Awards Luncheon.  As of now, athletic competitions and activities that meet safety and attendance guidelines (drive-thru tailgate, drive-in movie, and outdoor worship) will still be held during Homecoming Weekend. Will Hall of Fame inductees and/or Alumni Award recipients be selected for 2020?

The Hall of Fame committee and the Alumni Awards committee have decided against selecting inductees and alumni award recipients for 2020. Hall of Fame inductees and Alumni Award recipient selections will resume in 2021.

Will this year’s reunion classes get to celebrate their milestone anniversaries at next year’s Homecoming event?

Yes, we invite and encourage all of our milestone reunion classes to attend next year’s Homecoming celebration.

I’ve already received a “Save the Date” for my 50 Year Midland Golden Warrior Reunion. Will reunion activities for the Class of 1970 go on as planned or are they postponed until Homecoming 2021?

Following an abundance of caution, all in-person reunion activities for the Class of 1970 have been postponed until Homecoming 2021.

Can we set up our own virtual class reunions?

If you are interested in organizing a virtual class reunion via Zoom and would like assistance from the Midland Alumni Office, please email alumni@midlandu.edu and we will be happy to help you facilitate a virtual event.

Will any alumni events be rescheduled virtually or celebrated differently? If so, how will alumni be notified?

The Midland Alumni Office is currently developing a modified schedule of events in an effort to make Homecoming 2020 as special as possible. Homecoming events will be posted on social media and a Homecoming schedule will be made available online at alumni.midlandu.edu and sent via mail or email.
