Midland Honors Gabby Knobbe During Commencement

Midland University presented its highest student honor to a West Point, Nebraska, native during its Undergraduate Commencement ceremony on May 12th in the Wikert Event Center. Gabby Knobbe was presented the John R. Prauner Senior Award by Midland President Jody Horner. Knobbe, the daughter of John and Jane Knobbe, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education, K-8, from the Walker School of Education. She also studied Special Education and earned a K-6 Subject Endorsement.

Rico Munn Shares His Midland Experience

When Rico Munn first arrived on the Midland University campus in 1989, he planned to stay for a year. But plans changed.

Munn, who was Midland's 2018 Commencement speaker, explains he was presented with opportunities that would shape his collegiate experiences. He also made lifelong friendships, which made Midland the perfect place to build the foundation for his career and life.

"The opportunities I had because of the size of the school were great," he says. "That was huge for me. Between debate, theater and choir, I had opportunities to make friends and learn lessons through performing."

Drake Selected as Court Coach for USA Men's U18 Team Training Camp

Midland University men's basketball coach Oliver Drake will be assisting at the 2018 USA Basketball Men's U18 National Team Training Camp later this month.

Drake, Mike Brey of Notre Dame, Joe Dooley of East Carolina and Chuck Moore of Richard Bland College will serve as court coaches for the camp, scheduled for May 31st-June 2nd in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

"I am extremely thankful and honored to have the opportunity to represent USA Basketball at the camp," Drake said. "To be part of USA Basketball and to represent this amazing country with this group of coaches and athletes is a dream come true."

Midland Professor Signs Publishing Deal for Second Book

Dr. Courtney Wilder, Professor of Religion at Midland University, has signed a publishing deal with Baylor University Press for her second book: This Is My Body? Disability, Christianity, and Popular Culture. The book, which she is currently researching and writing, will dive into the depictions of disability in Christianity and popular culture.

Wilder, who has taught at Midland for more than a decade, will draw on professional expertise as a religious scholar to examine the understanding of disability within contemporary society. In addition to holding a Ph.D. in Theology and a Master's in Divinity, she has written several articles and academic papers on religion and published her first book, Disability, Faith, and the Church: Inclusion and Accommodation in Contemporary Congregations, in 2016.

Crouch Takes Good Notes as He Uses Coaching to Feed Passion

Jeff Jamrog immediately noticed a positive trait of his new assistant coach. He brought a notebook to his first staff meeting.

"He had it ready to go, and he takes great notes," says Jamrog, the third-year Midland University head football coach.

"I've always been a writer," the former Nebraska quarterback great says. "From high school and college, I've still got planners for each year. Day by day, I knew what my goal was or anything that was due. I've still got them in a box at home." He also keeps his Heisman Trophy boxed up at home, taking it out of its case perhaps once or twice a year for special occasions.
