Charles H. Diers, age 88, of Fremont, Nebraska, passed away Friday, January 2, 2026 at Nye Legacy in Fremont.
Charlie was born on November 5, 1937, to Walter C. and Philomena C. (Rump) Diers in Fremont. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Brooks on September 19, 1959, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont.
After attending Creighton University, Charlie earned his dealer license in 1964, becoming the youngest Ford Lincoln Mercury dealer in the United States. In 2019, Charlie was recognized by Ford Motor Company as one of six dealers worldwide for his commitment to his dealership and community. He never officially retired; he remained actively involved in the dealership throughout his life. He loved his job.
Born a farm kid, Charlie devoted his very full life to family, faith and business. He was a devout member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont and the Archdiocese of Omaha as a member of the Committee for Development. He and his wife Mary Lou are also members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
He was a committed Fremonter serving as a founding member of the Fremont Community Foundation and Greater Fremont Development Council. He was a career-long member and participant of The Fremont Rotary Club, The Fremont Family YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, John C. Fremont Days and the Nebraska Public Television Board. He established Deer Pointe Corporation in 2002 to develop residential & commercial property, St. Patrick Catholic Church, schools and trails, building infrastructure and enlarging Fremont’s economic footprint. He loved his community.
Above all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Mark Diers; and his brothers, Donald Diers and wife Virginia, Dale Diers, and Paul Diers.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou Diers of Fremont; children, Chuck and Julie Diers of Fremont, Michael and Christina Diers of Elkhorn, Suzanne Diers of Omaha, and Maggie Diers Yost of Fremont; grandchildren, Gini and Wesley Winkelmann, Graham Yost, Audrey Yost, C.J. Diers, Jack Diers, Henry Diers, George Diers, and Grace Diers; and his sister, Joan Lee and husband Jim of St. Paul, Minnesota.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church, with a Knights of Columbus Living Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Private burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
