Clinton McDonald '60

Pastor Clinton Lee McDonald, 87, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Primrose Retirement Community in Sedalia. He was born on August 11, 1938, in Hastings, Nebraska, a son of Clarence P. and Olivia (Lingwall) McDonald.

Clint spent his childhood in Hastings, Nebraska, during World War II and Korea and graduated from Hastings High School in May of 1956. He went to Midland Lutheran College, now Midland University, in Fremont, Nebraska, graduating in May of 1960 as a communications major. He was interested in newspaper work and was a reporter for the Hastings Tribune for a couple of years.

Feeling the call to ministry, Clint attended Central Lutheran Seminary in Fremont, Nebraska, graduating in May of 1965. He was ordained on May 11, 1965, and accepted a call to Christ Lutheran Church in Louisville, Nebraska. He also served churches in Wichita, Kansas, WaKeeney, Kansas, Linn/Clay Center Parish, Linn, Kansas, Raytown, Missouri, Jacksonville, Alabama, and Hastings/Glenvil, Nebraska. Following his retirement in 1999, he did eight interim ministries and served as pastor on staff for two other congregations.

On August 31, 1963, at Lincoln, Nebraska, he was united in marriage to Rosita Sampson. This union was blessed with the gift of three children: Scott, Jacque, and Karmen, as well as sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Clint was active in Kiwanis and served as governor of the Nebraska-Iowa District from 1998-1999. This afforded him and Rosie many travel opportunities. They were blessed to visit forty-six states and twenty countries.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie McDonald of the home; Scott McDonald and Kathy of Overland Park, Kansas, Jacque Dobyns and Joe of Lincoln, and Karmen Smith of Warsaw; sixteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Clint was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Olivia McDonald, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Dorothy McDonald and Clarence and Elouise McDonald.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Shawnee Cemetery, Warsaw with Pastor Jason McCray and Pastor John Brumet officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
