Dorothy HillenDorothy Hillen, 92, of Creston, died Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Columbus Community Hospital.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Creston with Rev. Timothy White officiating. Interment will be in the Pioneer Cemetery, rural Creston. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13 at Gass Haney Funeral Home and from 9-10 a.m. on Thursday, June 14 at the church with a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m.

Dorothy was born Dec. 18, 1925, on a farm near Creston, to John and Amanda (Gergens) Busch. She was proud to have been the Stanton County Spelling Bee champion and graduated from Creston High School in 1943 as the class valedictorian. She then attended Midland College where she was on the dean's list. On May 2, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Walter Hillen at St. Peters Church in Creston. They farmed in the Creston area where Dorothy helped on the farm and was also a caregiver for many family members. On June 15, 1987, she received the Good Neighbor Citation from the Knights of Aksarben. Dorothy was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Church. She loved to write poems and be with her family. She was a member of Christian Fellowship at church for 40 years, and also made Easter favors for church for over 40 years. She was secretary of Pioneer Cemetery for over 20 years and served on the Platte County Election Board.

Dorothy is survived by son Dennis (Linda) Hillen of Creston, son Mark (Leticia) Hillen of Olathe, Colorado; daughter-in-law Erma Hillen of Creston; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by parents John and Amanda Busch, husband Walter Hillen, son Merle Hillen, and brother Walter (Marjorie) Busch.
