Dr. Leo Kirchhoff died at Enloe Medical Center, Chico, CA after a brief illness. Born on a small farm near Weeping Water, Nebraska, he frequently celebrated Bastille Day in Paris which is also his birthday. An enthusiastic educator, traveler, and world soccer fan, Leo obtained his BS at Dana College, Blair, NE, MA at Colorado State in Greeley, CO, and EdD from the University of Kansas. He taught in Fremont, Omaha, and Blair, NE, and Chico University, CA. His Fulbright grants allowed him to teach in several countries, including Malawi, where his students shared text books while sitting on a dirt floor in a quonset. He retired from CSU, Chico in 2002 and was recognized by his peers by being granted professor emeritus status. He continued to work with Regional and Continuing Education to help provide professional development for teachers, with his career spanning more than 53 years. As a better "giver" than "receiver", he was a strong supporter of local sports, the North State Symphony, shelters, and board member of multiple organizations. Leo made many friends and touched numerous lives while traveling on all 7 continents. Those left to cherish his memory are sister Erma (Bernie) Bettinger, sis-ter-in-law Gladys (Glenn) Kirchhoff, nieces Diane (John) Reuss, Vicki (Jay Carstens) Kirchhoff, Coralie (Mark) Harris, Amy (Stefan) Babirad, nephew Steven Bettin-ger, 6 great nephews & nieces, extended family, and many wonderful friends and colleagues.
