Jeanette Darlene (Anderson) HengelfeltJeanette Darlene Hengelfelt, age 93, of Stromsburg, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2018 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Brenda Pfeifly officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Internment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.

Jeanette was born June 20, 1924 to Earnest John (E.J.) and Julia (Thorell) Anderson at Stromsburg. She attended country school and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1941.

Jeanette received her normal training following high school and then attended Luther College at Wahoo. She taught country school District 35 before moving to Omaha where she was a PBX operator at Immanuel Hospital.

On March 2, 1948 she was united in marriage to Marvin Dale Hengelfelt at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg. Jeanette’s brother Pastor Elton Anderson officiated. To this union four children were born.

The family lived and farmed west of Stromsburg. Jeanette worked with Marvin in the farming operation, and being a traditional farm wife, baking and canning, especially vegetables grown from her garden. She also worked at The Headlight for 25 years, as a proofreader.

Marvin and Jeanette semi-retired and moved into Stromsburg in 2002.

Jeanette moved into the Midwest Covenant Home on Dec. 2, 2010 where she resided until her passing.

Jeanette enjoyed baking, canning, working in her garden, sewing, traveling with the Fun Club, camping and spending time with her family.

She was member of Salem Lutheran Church where she directed and sang in the church choir for many years, was a Church Board member and served as church secretary for 40 years. She was also a member of Extension Club, U Go I Go club and Stromsburg American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Averl Hengelfelt of York and Patrice Clifton of Benedict; two sons, Alan (Linda) Hengelfelt and Corwin (Nancy) Hengelfelt all of Stromsburg; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dora Jane Swanson of Escanaba, Mich. other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, who passed away June 14, 2011; her parents; three brothers, Elton, Willard and Robert Anderson; one sister, Josephine Branting; brothers and sisters-in-law, Laird and Dot Hengelfelt and Bud and Lola Mae Stanton.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
