LaVonne J. Rohlfs

LaVonne J. Rohlfs, 88, of Fremont died early Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, in Fremont.

LaVonne was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Cedar Rapids to Otto and Mabel (Reigle) Richards. She grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from high school there in 1945. She enrolled at Midland College in Fremont, and through Midland College, she graduated from Immanuel School of Nursing and Midland College in 1950. She received her RN degree and later became a Nurse Practitioner. LaVonne worked in the office of Dr. Howard Yost in Fremont for many years until retiring.

LaVonne was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the LWML, and a church circle. After retiring, she became involved in quilting and was a member of the Prairie Peacemakers.

On Sept. 9, 1950, LaVonne was married to Merne Rohlfs in Omaha and they made Fremont their home in 1951. LaVonne is preceded in death by her husband Merne in August of 2014, and also by her two brothers, Delaine and LaVerle.

Survivors include: three daughters, Susan (Roy) Rogers, Blair, Nancy (Jeff) Christensen, Lincoln, and Linda Rohlfs, Iowa City, Iowa; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley Richards, Portland, Oregon, and Roma Richards, Tustin, California.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church followed by the committal in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation at Ludvigsen Mortuary will be 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church and School.
