Roxanne Mead '73

Roxanne MeadRoxanne Lois Mead, 66 of Kansas City, MO passed away on June 11, 2017 of pancreatic cancer. A visitation will be held from 5:30 – 7:00pm Friday, June 16, 2017 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 5409 NW 72nd Street, Kansas City, MO 64151 followed by a memorial service starting at 7:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or to Cancer Action KC, 10520 Barkley, Overland Park, KS 66212 or NorthCare Hospice House, 2800 Clay Edwards Drive, North Kansas City, MO 64116.

Roxanne was born December 1, 1950 in Fremont, NE to John and Lois Bentz. She attended Snyder High School in Snyder, NE. She graduated from Midland Lutheran College with a business degree and later obtained her Master’s degree in Education. Roxanne taught for 5 years in the Arlington School District in Nebraska and later retired from the Park Hill School District in Kansas City, MO after teaching for 23 wonderful years. Her passion for teaching would continue even after retirement when she went on to teach for the Park Hill Community Education program where she taught shorthand, knitting, and crochet where she made so many wonderful lifelong friends. Roxanne always had a special place in her heart for all students of all ages and was always the biggest and best cheerleader for the underdog.

Roxanne enjoyed several things in life including reading, quilting, traveling, and her flowers, but her true love was her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her quick wit, her contagious laughter, and passion for teaching and life in general. Roxanne had such a positive impact on so many lives and was truly loved by so many and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Roxanne was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Neil Kienbaum. Survivors include her loving husband, Larry Mead; her son, Eric Mead and wife Sarah; her daughter, Nikki Mead; her grandchildren, Makayla and Myles Mead; brother, Nile Kienbaum and her sisters, Mary Elizabeth Harris, Nola Schulenberg and husband Virgil and Nita Holmes and husband Roger.
