Agnes A. Polacek
Agnes A. “Agi” Polacek passed away at Life Care in Elkhorn on July 12, 2017. She was born on a farm near Prague on Feb 7, 1922. Agi was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Mary (Vasa) Polacek; brothers, Frank and John; and sisters, Julie and Margaret (Palensky).
Agi is survived by brothers, Robert of Wahoo, Alf of Prague and Emil of Wahoo; sisters, Marie (Sloup) of Morse Bluff and Dorothy (Vavak) of Prague; 28 nieces and nephews; many grandnieces and grandnephews; and several great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
Since the mid-1960s, Agi was a resident of Omaha, where she was active in volunteer ministries at Christ the King Church, including saying the rosary with residents at Hickory Villa Assisted Living for many years. In her early years, Agnes received a teaching certificate from Midland College and taught in a one-room school house, Dist. No. 51, near Prague. She worked at many jobs in Omaha through the years, including the gift shop at Bergen Mercy Hospital and at Precision Optical. Agi was a loyal and consistent donor to numerous charitable organizations.
In 2002, Agi’s life took a turn when, at the age of 80, she was hit by a car as she was walking to work. Since then she had resided at Hickory Villa in Omaha. Her years of infirmity did not stop her from continuing to be devoted to her church, watching EWTN and enjoying the bingo and crafts at Hickory Villa. Agi was a huge fan of Creighton basketball and would often be seen sitting in her apartment wearing her Creighton t-shirt and cheering on her team. Her lifelong spirit of faith and generosity lives on as an example for all of us.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 20, at the Bel Air Chapel, 12100 West Center Road in Omaha, with a vigil service to follow at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, July 21 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 654 S. 86th St. in Omaha.
