Alumni Spotlight: Demetria Carman, MBA ‘23
Raising a child and working two full-time jobs doesn’t leave much time to pursue a degree. But don’t try telling Demetria Carman you can’t make it work.
Demetria earned her Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Project Management from Midland University in 2023. “I graduated with a 3.97 GPA, while working two-full time jobs and raising a child alone,” Demetria said. “I want to show my three daughters that it’s never too late to better yourself and despite the obstacles, it can be done.”
Demetria currently works as a project coordinator with Buffett Early Childhood Institute. “I have a career I love with an organization that is changing the world for children in Nebraska,” Demetria said.
She chose Midland’s MBA program because she liked the hybrid approach. In her time at Midland, she gained experience and knowledge that paved the way for her to further both her education, and career.
“I am new to the project management world and discovered my love for it while at Midland,” she said. “Midland’s program allowed me to gain real-world knowledge, not just learning from a book. I especially enjoyed a class where we worked as a team to run a car manufacturing company. It gave me skills in teamwork, strategies, and managing a project. I loved my professors and appreciated how they took the time to get to know me.”
Demetria loves spending time with her three adult daughters (Cami, Madi, Avery), who have provided her inspiration during her journey. “They are my driving force,” she said. “I couldn’t have done this without them.”
She also enjoys hand knitting and live music in her spare time.
