Cassanda Brooks (Martin) ‘20 found herself at a crossroads early in her collegiate career.

She arrived at Midland on a track and field scholarship, but an injury during her freshman year would end her athletic career before it got started.

“After the injury, I found myself confused and depressed,” Cassandra said. “My professors not only encouraged me, but pushed me to overcome the obstacle. Professors like Theresa Ferg, Nick Schreck, Rita Bristol, and Lynn Schnoor made a significant impact on my life both professionally and personally. Without the support of my professors, I am not sure I would have graduated. I will forever be grateful to Midland for the opportunities it created for me.”

Those opportunities led Cassandra to a career at CrossMed Healthcare in Omaha, where she was recently promoted to marketing manager. 

“My time at Midland allowed me to grow my skill sets both professionally and personally,” she said. “The number one skill I learned and enhanced at Midland was my grit. I’ve always been a hard worker, but I have found my deepest strengths when I overcome challenges. I learned how to persevere when faced with challenges and that will last me a lifetime."

“Without Midland, my career wouldn’t have propelled as fast as it has and I wouldn’t have the personal connections I do that have helped me along the way.”

Cassandra and her husband, Kolin, welcomed their first child in 2023. She loves spending time with her family and is heavily involved in her church in Omaha.
