David "Dave" Gustof Johnson, 94, of Rockford, IL passed away peacefully on July 9, 2023. David was born on June 19, 1929, to his parents, Dr. A.J. Johnson and Ida A. Johnson in St. Paul, MN.
David served in the United States Army from June 15, 1951 until he was honorably discharged in May 30, 1953, during the Korean War. He was a part of the 4III Signal Corps in the Army. David received a Korean Bronze Service Medal and a United Nation Medal.
David married the love of his life, Mary Ann F. Johnson (Magaraci) December 26, 1956 in Axtel, NE. He attended Augustana College for 2 years in Rock Island, IL, then went on to Midland University for 2 years in Fremont, NE. He worked 43 years at Lutheran Brotherhood (Thrivent) Financial Advisors. David was very devoted to his faith and to his church, St. Mark Lutheran. He was a part of the St. Mark men's breakfast group.
David was very interested in birds and nature. He took the time to watch all the different birds and would tend to feeding them and even building bird houses. He enjoyed building things and using his hands. David will be dearly missed by so many.
Survived by his wife, Mary Ann F. Johnson; children, Jeffrey David Johnson, Laura Christine Johnson, and Julia Maria (Michael) Johnson-Baer; granddaughter, Emily Ann Johnson; and brother Joel Johnson. David is predeceased by his parents, Reverend Dr. A.J. Johnson and Ida A. Johnson; sisters, Anne, Linnea, Pauline, Carole and Miriam; and brothers, Alan and his twin Daniel.
Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 22, 2023, in St. Mark Lutheran Church, 675 N. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL. with Pastor Chad Mc Kenna officiating. Memorial visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions made to St. Mark Lutheran Church.
