Dean Amos Bankson, 93, of Central City, formerly of Hordville, Nebraska passed away Monday, May 19, 2025 at The Oaks in Central City. Memorial services for Dean and Karen Bankson will be Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Central City. Visitation will be Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 1-2 p.m. Burial of ashes will be in the Hordville Cemetery. Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City is entrusted with the arrangements.

Dean was born on December 29, 1931, at the family home near Hordville, Nebraska, to Everett and Ella (Breyer) Bankson. He was raised on the family farm and was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Central City. A 1949 graduate of Hordville High School, he went on to attend Luther College in Wahoo. Dean proudly served his country in the U.S. Army at the Oakland Army Base in California from June 1952 to June 1954.

After his military service, Dean returned to farm alongside his father and brother, Neil, for many years. Later, he drove trucks hauling farm equipment and moving grain bins. In the later years of his farming life, he worked closely with his son, Larry.

On March 9, 1958, Dean was united in marriage to Vera M. Knerr in York, Nebraska. Together they raised five children: Cindy, Larry, Steve, Cheri, and Brian. Vera passed away on November 11, 2003. Dean later married Karen Mitchell of York on May 13, 2006. Karen preceded him in death on January 26, 2025.

Dean was a devoted Husker fan and had a deep appreciation for antique tractors. He enjoyed catching up with friends over coffee, traveling, and especially spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's events. His Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life and guided him throughout his years.

He is survived by his children: Cindy Williams of McLouth, KS; Larry (Sally) Bankson of Hordville, NE; Cheri Brostowicz of New Braunfels, TX; and Brian (Nadine) Bankson of Hampton, NE. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren: Derek Williams, Danae (Will) Keech, Keith (Breann) Bankson, Brianna (Ethan) Nelson, Andrew Brostowicz, Tyler (Haley) Bankson, and Travis Bankson; and three great-grandchildren. Dean will be remembered for his gentle spirit, hard work, unwavering faith, and devotion to his loved ones.

Dean is also survived by his siblings: Doris Benner, Luella Ernst, Betty (Don) George, and Marvin (Janice) Bankson; sisters-in-law: Dolores Bankson and Joan Bankson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and Karen's family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Steve; sons-in-law, Bob Williams and Dave Brostowicz; his parents; and siblings: Elvera Steimle, Eldon Bankson, Don Bankson, and Neil Bankson; as well as sister-in-law Donna Bankson, and brothers-in-law Charles Benner and William Ernst.
