Donald G. Anderson

Donald G. Anderson

Donald AndersonDonald G. Anderson, age 97, of Fremont, formerly of Wahoo, died on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Pathfinder Senior Living.

Don was born on November 29, 1927, on the family farm near Colon, NE, to Robert and Laurine (Peterson) Anderson. He attended District 55 grade school and was a 1945 graduate of Wahoo High School. Don served in the Pacific aboard the USS Los Angeles and the USS Duluth from 1946 to 1948. Shortly after his return to Nebraska, he was introduced to Ruth Nyberg, a student at Luther College. They married on November 18, 1948, and celebrated 62 years together before Ruth passed away in 2011.

Much of Don's career was spent in the floor covering and ceramic tile industry where he was a true craftsman. A graduate of the Armstrong School of Floor Covering, Don worked for Ericson Furniture Store and Mortuary, Hoppe Paint, Johnson Furniture, (his own) Don's Floor Covering, and Cubbison Distributing.

Don was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wahoo, serving for many years as financial secretary. He enjoyed helping relatives on the farm in his spare time. He also volunteered at Wahoops events. When Don and Ruth moved to Fremont in 2000, he donated his time and talents to First Lutheran Church through LIFT, Senior Christian Fellowship, Thursday Morning Men, and The Banquet.

Don was a regular Red Cross blood donor well into his 90s. He was an avid gardener, a Kiwanis volunteer, and a Do-It-Yourselfer. He enjoyed golfing with his family and friends and cheering on his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Don will be remembered as a role model of faith, for his handyman skills, his thoughtfulness and gentle demeanor and his willingness to be talked into anything if you would "twist my arm".

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth, his parents, and his sister, Donna Lou Houfek. He is survived by his children Steve and Virginia Anderson of Omaha, Wendy and Lon Olson of Fremont, Lynette and Michael McCarty of Greenwood IN/Gold Canyon AZ; grandchildren Ryan and Beth Olson of Fremont, Libby and Kasey Brosz of Omaha, Lindsay Anderson and Kyle Viera of Pittsford NY, Megan and Joey Clawson of Greenwood IN, Lisa Olson of Minneapolis MN, Ali and Jay Lame of Cincinnati OH; great-grandchildren Luke, Tate, and Emalyn Olson, Jon and Frank Nelson, Olivia Viera, Kara Clawson, Trey, Finn, and Lucy Lame.

There is no viewing however the family will receive friends at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont June 3 from 5pm to 7pm. The Celebration of Life service will be 10:30am, June 4, 2025, at First Lutheran Church, 3200 E Military in Fremont with Rev. Greg DeBoer officiating. The committal will be in Sunrise Cemetery, Wahoo.

Don was raised to honor the mission of spreading God's love to those in need. We are suggesting memorials to the Machame Lutheran Hospital Nursing Scholarship, a rural mission hospital in Tanzania. Checks should be directed to NE Synod (Machame Nursing scholarship in the memo only).
