Dr. Leonard C. Nielsen '74

Leonard NielsenDr. Leonard C. Nielsen age 69, of Fremont, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Fremont Methodist Hospital.

Leonard was born on December 22. 1951, in Omaha, to E. V. "Vic" and Lois (Moore) Nielsen. Leonard attended and graduated from Fremont High School in 1970. He then attended Midland Lutheran College graduating in 1974 with an accounting degree. Following college Leonard started his career at Arthur Anderson Accounting. In 1981, Leonard was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and retired from Peter Kiewit & Sons, returning to Fremont.

Leonard spent the majority of his life living on Midland's campus, mentoring thousands of students. He served as the Kappa Phi sponsor for more than 30 years, making life long friendships. Leonard received an honorary doctorate from Midland Lutheran College. Leonard was very active in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where he served many active roles. Leonard was also president of the Fremont Eagles Club, member of the Fremont Masonic Lodge, Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Leonard supported the Multiple Sclerosis Society by hosting an annual golf tournament.

Leonard was loved and cherished by many people, young and old.

Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, nephew Michael E. Nielsen, and many cherished friends.

Leonard is survived by his brothers Ken (Sharon) Nielsen of Elkhorn, Ron Nielsen of Kearney, Bob (Sandy) Nielsen of Fremont, Mike Nielsen of Fremont, several nieces, nephews, godchildren, Kappa Phi fraternity brothers and many, many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Midland University or St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Dugan Funeral Chapel from 4:00-6:00PM with a Masonic Service at 6PM and a Rosary at 6:30PM.

Funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 30, 2021, at 10:00AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Celebration of life gathering will be held following the church luncheon at Lynn and Cindi Lamprecht's home.
