E. Genevieve “Gen” Christensen, age 96, of Fremont died Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.

Gen was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Mead to Henry and Lillie (Lind) Erickson. She was baptized and confirmed in Alma Lutheran Church in Mead. She grew up on a farm near Mead and graduated from Mead High School in 1938. Gen attended Luther College in Wahoo for two years then finished her four years at the University of Omaha in 1965.

On June 1, 1947, Gen married Richard “Dick” Christensen in Alma Lutheran Church by the same minister who baptized and confirmed her. The couple lived various places, moving to Fremont in 1990.

Gen was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church and the Retired Teachers Association.

For the last 10 years of her life she lived happily at Shalimar Gardens Memory Support where she was taken care of by a kind, caring, loving staff.

Survivors include: daughters, Janet Lynn Brabec of Fremont and Patricia Ann (Roger) Beier of Fremont; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, Morris (Jean) Erickson of Mead.

Gen was preceded in death by her husband Dick on June 12, 2005; son-in-law, William Brabec; and sister, Doris Treptow.

The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sinai Lutheran Church, Rev. Al Duminy will officiate. A private committal will be held in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Sinai Lutheran Church. There is no viewing, but the family will be receiving friends on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont.
