Edna Scott | Woman of Midland

Mom Scott, as she was affectionately called, served as housemother at Men’s Memorial Hall, and ruled with a firm but gentle hand. From a former student, “Mom was always there–with homemade fudge for late-night studying, change for the pop machine, a consoling word after a tough day, a warning or fine for playing the stereo too loud.” Her death from cancer in 1977 took Men’s by surprise. “We felt a sudden, cold shudder…as if the cornerstone of the building had been removed."
