The Lord received her into His Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on July 27, 1924, by the Rev. J.G. Lang at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was also confirmed in the Christian faith at Immanuel by the Rev. Ernest Eckhardt on May 1, 1938.
She was raised on the family farm just north of Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Winslow. After graduating from Hooper High School, Elva attended Midland College then taught at Hartung School and Wolf School, Bell Center, and District 64. After their marriage, they farmed for a short time in Washington County before moving to a farm in Burt County where they continued to farm. After Herold died, Elva continued to live on the farm before moving to Nye Square, Fremont, in 2012.
Elva was a life-long and active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and Lydia Circle. She was also an assistant 4-H leader of the Flying Needles 4-H Club and member of the Birthday Club in the Craig/Alder Grove area. She loved to play cards and was a member of a card club in Uehling and continued playing cards at Nye Square several times a week. She and Herold loved to bowl and that was an activity she did for many years. Elva also loved to do needlepoint, garden, bake pies and mostly loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
