Eric Hansen

Cleaning up an old building and countless spent rehearsing are memories that have lasted a lifetime for Eric Hansen ‘87.

During one of his interterms at Midland, Hansen was part of a production of Anything Goes. “We spent the entire first day cleaning up the old gym so we could build a stage, then we rehearsed night and day to perform a musical, which hadn’t been done in years,” Hansen said. “It was so much fun. I truly made lifelong friendships from that experience, as well as many others while I was at Midland.”

A music education major, Hansen would embark on a 30-year career as a music educator in the public school system. After retirement, he started a second career with the Nebraska Department of Insurance as a Medicare Specialist, counseling beneficiaries that are making Medicare choices. He also teaches Medicare classes at Southeast Community College.

“I am very proud that I have been able to transition into a totally different profession later in life and continue to learn and share with people to make their lives better,” he said.

He has kept his hand in the performing arts world by working on musicals at the Beatrice Community Players.

He and his wife, Amy, have been married for 25 years and still have a special connection to Midland as their daughter, Dev Hansen, is a senior at Midland. “What a proud moment we will have as we watch her walk across the same stage,” Eric said.
