Erikur John Weber Arnason '19

Erikur John Weber Arnason '19

Erikur WeberAnother young man gone too soon. Erikur died in a sudden accident on Friday, March 22nd. He was on his way up to "the shack" near Crane Lake with his two companions, his dogs Telli and Helios always at his side. He planned on enjoying the quiet woods while reading and writing.

Erikur was born at his home in Hibbing, MN on August 6, 1993. He then moved to Grand Rapids and started his academic years at Greenway in Coleraine. He was an avid athlete, involved in football, baseball and hockey. Although his passion was ball, he hurt his shoulder while pitching, so his focus was mainly hockey. He had the responsibility of keeping the puck out of the net. Greenway went through their lean years of few players, to the point of almost having to quit their hockey program, but he stayed true to Greenway in spite of being asked to play by both Grand Rapids and Hibbing. Loyalty was important to him.

Once graduated he played Junior Hockey with both El Paso Rhinos and Breezy Point North Stars. He went on to pursue his higher education at Midland University in Freemont, Nebraska, remaining in the nets for a new hockey program. He worked in the admissions office at the University and was an ambassador for the school. He enjoyed touring and educating prospective students and their family at the campus. He graduated from the Dunklau School of Business in business management. After graduation he started at Menards in Omaha in management training program. While in Nebraska he volunteered at FurEver Homes and fostered dogs, eventually adopting his dog Telli. He volunteered during the floods in Nebraska and up at Rainy Lake.

His family was finally able to get him to leave Nebraska, where he had grown comfortable and close to his neighbors, and back to Northern Minnesota. "Roam if you must, but come home when you've seen enough." He was just settling down in Hibbing, the home of his birth, working for Crego Construction enjoying the physical work as he had decided business to be "too conservative." Just recently he decided a new path; having enrolled in the nursing program. His sight set on continuing his education with the goal of a nurse practitioner or psychiatric RN. He wanted to work in the area of mental health or chemical dependency, but he left us too soon and suddenly. Erikur was kind and he cared so much for people, for his family. He was a seeker of knowledge and understanding. He had a haunting passion for social justice issues concerning the entire globe. He was a great uncle, always there to support his nieces and nephews, attending their events, throwing the football and initiating a game of catch. Preceding his death are both his maternal and paternal grandparents, John and Delores (Fachini) Weber and Ray and Betty Arnason, loving uncles, Arny Arnason and Frank Weber, cousin, Jay Weber and aunt, Kriss Dilley. He is survived by his father, Robert Arnason, mother, Mary Weber, siblings, Teal and Willa Arnason, nieces and nephews, Novalea Hanson, Huxley Arnason, Kaverra Cullen, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Hodgkins-Berardo Arena in Coleraine. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the beginning of the service at 1:00 pm. Erikur will be resting at the Itasca Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
