Gary Kammerer '66
Gary William Kammerer, 74, of Falls City, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Falls City. He was born Jan. 1, 1943 at Falls City to Robert and Verna (Imhof) Kammerer.
On October 18, 1964 he married Susan Nelson at Fremont. They divorced in 1977.
Gary was raised at Falls City and graduated from Falls City High School in 1961 as a member of the last undefeated Tiger football team. He enrolled at Midland Lutheran College, where he ran track and played football, graduating in 1966 with a degree in business. Following graduation he turned down a chance to play football in the NFL for more money working for Hormel in Fremont. He moved to Montana and operated a snow machine dealership, then worked for National Car Rental and then Justin Boots. He moved back to Falls City in 1987, where he worked as a self-employed contractor in residential and commercial construction. He retired in 2005. He enjoyed working with large machinery, hunting and the outdoors, as well as helping area farmers.
Gary was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, northeast of Falls City.
He is survived by daughters, Andrea (Brad) Smith, of Papillion, and Holly Kammerer, of Omaha; son, Christopher (Jennifer) Kammerer, of Huntington Beach, CA; sister, Linda (Lowell) Hall, of Casa Grande, AZ; aunts, Wilma June Koeneke, of Johnson, and Theone Kuhlman, of Falls City; three grandchildren; a niece and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with PMA Wanda Biel and Rev. Andrew Chavanak officiating. Interment will be in Williamsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home, Falls City.
