Gene was born March 9, 1932 in Arlington, Nebraska and passed away on August 9, 2022 in Bakersfield, CA. Gene is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine Nicholson Carlberg, daughters and sons-in-law Sherry and Greg Humphrey, Kimbyr and Patrick Blanton, Beth and Jack Lee, and daughter Kristin Carlberg; grandchildren Shane Elliott, Ricci Guillen, Leslee Humphrey, Lynee' Humphrey: and great-grandchildren Kennedy Elliott, Parker Elliott, Graham Elliott, Brody Pierce, and Paityn Pierce. We will ALL love and miss you until we meet again.
Gene was born and raised on his family farm in Arlington, Nebraska. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955. Gene graduated from Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska in 1958, and later studied law at Humphrey's College School of law in Fresno, California where he completed his law degree. Gene worked as a sales representative at Chevron Chemical from 1958 to 1972. He joined the Kern County Public Defender's office in 1975 and practiced law until his retirement in 1993.
Gene was an active member of Calvary Bible Church, Bakersfield where he served as a member of the church council and provided leadership in evangelism and discipleship. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was a great man; a man of integrity, warmth, and wisdom. His friends and family will miss him terribly, but we recognize that this is not goodbye, this is "see ya later" because we KNOW that we will be reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Gene has resided at Brookdale Riverwalk in Bakersfield for the last three years. Our family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Brookdale for their exceptional care and concern.
