Gerald T. “Tom” Brant '68

Gerald T. “Tom” Brant, 72 years, of Fremont passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, in Omaha. He was born on June 26, 1946 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, to Gerald and Mable (McKinley) Brant.

Tom grew up in Pottstown and graduated from Pottsgrove High School in 1964. He graduated from Midland College in 1968, and began teaching at Fremont High School. Tom married Judith Gettys on May 31, 1968, at First Lutheran Church in Fremont. He completed his Master’s Degree in 1972. Tom spent 44 years teaching English in Fremont.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he served on the Mutual Ministries Committee. He volunteered as Records Secretary on a part-time basis. For 35 years he volunteered for the Boy Scouts, including advisor responsibilities for those working on Eagle Scout rank. He was also awarded the Order of the Silver Beaver.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Judith of Fremont; daughter, Wendy Mehl (Jon Davis) of Sierra Vista, Arizona; son, Joel (Gina) Brant of Omaha; brother, David (Sandy) Brant of Leesport, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Samantha and Amanda Mehl and Henry Brant.

He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law, Donald and Leone Gettys.

The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. Pastors Chip Borgstadt and James Lindberg will officiate.
