Greta Snell '60

Greta SnellGreta Snell was born on the Epp Family Farm, northeast of Burrton, Kansas on July 6, 1938. She left this earth for heaven on Good Friday morning, April 15, 2022.

Greta loved learning and serving. She was gifted at both. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Central Christian High School. She was awarded a three-year nursing scholarship by the American Cancer Society. She completed training to become a Registered Nurse at Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing. She earned a B.S. at Grace Bible Institute, a year later.

In 1962, she began her thirty-eight-year career as an instructor at Grace Hospital School of Nursing where her potential was quickly evident. She was promoted to Director of Education for the newly formed Hutchinson Hospital Corp. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing at Wichita State University while holding her new position.

One of Greta’s nursing students introduced Greta to her future husband, Glen Snell. After her marriage to Glen, they lived on the farm near Kingman, Kansas.

Greta was a devout follower of Jesus Christ having been baptized in the Christian faith as a young teen at Burrton Mennonite Church. Her nursing career was a manifestation of her Christian faith. Most of her adult life she was an active member of the Methodist Church where among other positions, she served as a training leader for Stephens Ministry. She also served on the board and as a tireless volunteer at the Prairie Sunset Home, Pretty Prairie, Kansas.

Greta was predeceased by her parents Eva Dorothea (Pankratz) Epp and Cornelius F. Epp and her husband, Glen. She was also predeceased by her brother James, brother Leon, sister-in-law Kathy and nephew Justin.

She is survived by brother Carl and wife Jean, brother Gary and wife Janet, sister SuZan Klassen and husband Rodney, and sister-in-law Carol. In addition, Greta is survived by many loving cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Visitation: Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman, Kansas on Friday, April 22, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Memorial: Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 23, 1:30 p.m. followed by refreshments in Fellowship Hall. Memorial Contributions may be sent in her honor to: Prairie Sunset Home or Samaritan’s Purse.
