James Horsford '62
James Horsford, 79, of Greeley, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2018, at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
James Arne Horsford was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Arne and Dagne (Anderson) Horsford. He was raised and educated in Nebraska. Upon his graduation from high school, he attended Midland College in Fremont, Neb., and earned his teaching degree in 1962.
On June 4, 1960, he married Carol Hongsermeier. They shared a marriage for 55 years. Together they raised three sons: Mark Horsford, Jason (Marlo) Horsford of Littleton, and Andrew Horsford of Denver. The couple enjoyed three grandchildren: Jack and Allie Horsford and Felix Horsford.
James was a teacher and a coach for 35-plus years. He worked at the faculties of Arapahoe High School in Littleton, McCook Community College in Nebraska and Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado. After his retirement in 1999, he and Carol moved to Scottsbluff, before moving to Greeley in 2012.
Mr. Horsford was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and a lifelong member of the Elks Club. He was also an avid golfer, swimmer and Nebraska Cornhuskers fan.
He is survived by his three sons and three grandchildren; two nieces: Shawn Meister and Shelly Sandeen of Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and his brother, John.
