James Sweeney
James M. "Jim" Sweeney, 88, of Cedar Bluffs, NE passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont. He was born January 2, 1936, in Fremont to Milton 'Bill' and Selma (Hansen) Sweeney.
Jim graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School in 1953. He served in the US Army In Germany. He then attended Midland Lutheran College from 1958-1959. He married Mary Lou Neal April 20, 1958 in Cedar Bluffs. He worked at AT&T "Western Electric" for 30 years retiring in 1989. He then worked at the Wahoo Sale Barn and at Saunders County Corrections for 13 years. Jim also retired from the Mead Volunteer Fire Department and was the Emergency coordinator for Saunders County. Most recently, Jim served the Cedar Bluffs volunteer Fire Dept. He enjoyed being a Ham operator, hunting, fishing and was the owner of O' Cedar Kennels for many years.
Jim was a member of Pohocco Lutheran Church south of Fremont and the Fremont Friendship Center.
He is survived by his son David (Terri) Sweeney of Buckeye, AZ; daughters, Michelle (Jay) Hansen of Fremont and Sandy (Rich) Winkelman of Leshara, NE; six grandchildren, Andrew, Nicole, Sara, Mary, Richard and Will and 10 great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary and brother, Daniel Sweeney.
Memorial Service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Pohocco Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday also at the church.
Interment with Military Honors will be at Union Cemetery, Cedar Bluffs, NE.
Memorials are suggested to Fremont Friendship Center or Pohocco Lutheran Church.
