Janis Guenther, 63, of West Point, died after a short battle with cancer on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at her home. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Stokely Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Janis Marie Guenther was born on September 10, 1954 to Donald and Patricia (Schneckloth) Pfeiffer in Council Bluffs, IA. She grew up on a small family farm near Crescent, IA. After graduating from high school, Janis joined the Army where she was stationed at several places across the country. She returned to Nebraska and received a nursing degree from Midland Lutheran College. On May 7, 1983, Janis married Marvin Guenther at Broadway Methodist Church in Council Bluffs. The couple moved to the farm west of west of West Point and Janis worked at several area hospitals and clinics. Later, she earned her degree as a nurse practitioner from South Dakota State University and worked as a travelling nurse.
Janis is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cross stitching, gardening, canning, and her pet cats.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin of West Point; son, William of West Point; sisters, Julie Knudson and Joyce Genovesi; and brother, Russ (Jeanie) Pfieffer of Council Bluffs, IA. Janis is preceded in death by her parents.
