Janis HaggstromJanis was born in O'Neill, Nebraska on February 28, 1938, and died on January 11, 2021, in Omaha. She was preceded in death on August 7, 2020 by her husband Dr. John Andrew Haggstrom, and her parents, Gerald and Elizabeth (Bentz) DeVore.

Mrs. Haggstrom graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 1956 as valedictorian and from Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha in 1959. After passing the Nebraska State Boards, she served as the lead Evening House Supervisor and in-service education coordinator at Immanuel Hospital. Janis married John Andrew Haggstrom of Omaha on June 17, 1961 in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Mrs. Haggstrom served as the Director of Volunteer Services at Westside Community Schools from 1986 to 1998. For many years, she was an active community volunteer, including the Metropolitan Omaha Medical Society Auxiliary for which she served as President, and the Nebraska Medical Association Auxiliary, where she twice served as Co-Chairman of the NMAA Convention. She held the roles of Treasurer and President of the Friends of Children's Hospital Board. Janis was a member of the congregation at Pacific Hills Lutheran Church in Omaha for more than 50 years where she served on the Board of Trustees and as a teacher.

Janis had many interests, an ever-curious and open mind, and enjoyed global travel after John's retirement as a pediatric radiologist. Much like was written about her Aunt Marie Bentz, "She matured into an intelligent woman who had a profound influence on the rest of her family members". Janis was the cornerstone of her family, serving as the caregiver of many generations. Her loving and enduring influence has been written on the hearts of her children and grandchildren.

Janis is survived by her grateful sons, Dr. John Haggstrom (Ann) of Omaha and Dr. David Haggstrom (Anita) of Indianapolis; and grandchildren, Kathryn, Thomas, Andrew and Erik Haggstrom.
