Jason Davis '95
Jason S. Davis, 52, passed away very suddenly but peacefully from pancreatic cancer on August 31, 2024, while surrounded by loved ones in Omaha, Nebraska. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church (732 Clark Street, Sterling Colorado) with services concluding at the church. The family will have a private ceremony for the spreading of the ashes on the family farm near Peetz, Colorado. A celebration of Jason's life will be held September 22, 2024, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Jason, a shining star of positivity and pure kindness, was born in Sterling, Colorado on March 20, 1972, and grew up on a farm west of Peetz, Colorado with his parents, Marsha and Dave Davis and brother, Brent Davis. From the beginning, Jason was an inquisitive, curious, and very active child. He had an intense love for books and reading along with all things sports related – even going as far as making a mobile basketball hoop out of an old grain auger. He attended Peetz School and graduated as class valedictorian along with many academic and athletic honors. He was awarded the Midland Lutheran Scholarship and attended college there in Fremont, Nebraska. After studying almost everything, he graduated in 1995 with honors, receiving bachelor's degrees in business and in social sciences. Jason always had the ability to learn very easily and quickly which eventually led to him teaching himself how to play the guitar and learning how to sing. He was a natural leader and never shied away from being in the spotlight if he could make everyone laugh or help someone. He was a member of the Army reserves from 1992-1999 and graduated from Ft. Sam Houston with the rank of Medical Specialist. Throughout his life, Jason held various jobs including selling real estate, working at Camp Carol Joy Holling in Ashland, Nebraska, and working at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. He eventually found his dream job at Dillon Brothers Harley Davidson in Omaha, Nebraska and built many relationships with loyal customers over the 18 years he worked there. Wherever Jason was, he always found himself surrounded by wonderful friends who enjoyed his caring personality and silly antics. He never knew a stranger and was kind to everyone he met.
In 2009, Jason met Erin Holechek at a wedding and knew that he had found the one for him. He eagerly and enthusiastically assumed the shared roll of fatherhood, helping to raise Erin's daughter, Lucy (Kaz). On August 27, 2024, Jason and Erin were married in a beautiful ceremony at the intensive care unit at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Together, Jason and Erin loved traveling to the Lake of the Ozarks and shared many trips there with friends and family. Jason's love for his family brought him back to Peetz for most holidays and, in November of 2023, for a family trip to Estes Park, Colorado for his parents 50th wedding anniversary. In June, which would be his last trip back to Colorado, he had the opportunity to meet and hold his great niece, Ruth Isabel Davis.
Jason will aways be remembered as a man of encouragement. He was lighthearted, positive thinking, loving, and caring. He loved a win-win situation, his family and friends, the Broncos and the Cornhuskers, a competitive game of Pitch or Poker, a day of golf or softball with friends, and most importantly his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jason was a disciple of the Lord and brought many to Him. While his sudden death was such a shock to everyone – in those last six weeks while battling cancer, he never had any pain. Jason was so very thankful to God for this. He died with a smile knowing that Jesus was there to greet him with "Welcome home my good and faithful servant, your work on earth is finished."
Jason was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Elmer and Frankie Davis, Helen Bartels, and George Walker, grandparents, Robert and Dorothy Davis and Norbert and Sarah Kaiser and cousin, Greg Davis.
Jason is survived by his wife, Erin (Bard Holechek) Davis and step-daughter, Lucy (Kaz) Holechek of Omaha, NE, parents Dave and Marsha Davis, brother and sister-in-law Brent and Bev Davis, nephew Adam and wife Molly Davis, and great niece, Ruth Davis all of Peetz, CO, niece Sarah Davis of Bozeman, MT, nephew Matthew Davis of Seattle, WA, mother and step father-in-law Julie and Tod McConahay, father and step-mother-in-law Rick and Donna Bard, brothers and sisters-in-law Tom and Marritt Bard (Dylan, Tinley, and Carter), Kate Bard and Chris Bambery (Elija, and Beatrice), Emily Bard, Christopher McConahay and Steven McConahay all of Omaha, uncles and aunts Bob and Sue Davis and Rick and Karen Kaiser all of Sterling, CO, aunt Debbie Bohks of Golden, CO, and numerous cousins and friends.
The family has requested that instead of flowers or plants, donations be made to the Jason Davis Memorial Fund (PO Box 1046, Sterling, CO 80751). An academic scholarship will be established in Jason's name for Peetz School graduates.
