Barbara Jean Cameron, age 88 of Tekamah, passed away on Friday, Nov. 29th, 2024, at the Memorial Community Hospital & Health System in Blair, Nebraska. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah, Nebraska. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, at Emmanuel Lutheran beginning at 5 p.m. An Eastern Star Memorial service will follow visitation at 7:30 p.m.
Jean was born Feb. 15th, 1936, in Herman, Nebraska, the daughter of Gordon William and Lucille Anderson. The family lived for a year in California before they moved back to the family farm where she was raised. Barbara attended the New England Country School through 8th grade and then went to Herman High School, graduating in 1953. She then attended Midland Lutheran College and received her teaching certificate.
She taught second grade for one year in Tekamah. She was set up on a blind date by Bob and Charlotte Rasmusen. This is when she met the love of her life, Joe C. Cameron. The couple got married on June 23, 1957. Jean then began her life as a farm wife.
In her early years of married life Jean loved to tend to her large vegetable garden, flower gardens and canned her bountiful produce from her garden and many jams and mainly chokecherry jells from picking wild berries. Jean was a wonderful cook and baker. Jean remained on the farm until the passing of Joe. She moved to Tekamah in 2013 where she lived until her passing.
Jean was active in the following organizations during her lifetime: A Sunday School teacher; Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron; the Herman Auxiliary, and many church groups and committees.
Jean is survived by her children; Kathy (John) Dvorak, Marion, IA; Dave (Sharon) Cameron, Herman, NE; Sarah (Gary) Lambrecht, Kennard, NE; Mary Beth (Lynn) Wegner, West Point, NE. Sister, MaryLou (Don) Soukup, Omaha, NE; brother Tom (Beverly) Anderson, Herman, NE. 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren along with many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe Cameron, brother- and sister-in-law Gordon W. “Bill” and Lorey Anderson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gene and Eloise Cameron and her mother- and father-in-law Whit and Emily Cameron.
