Jerome F. ‘Jerry’ Sokolovsky, age 80, of Fremont died Friday, June 22, 2018, at Birchwood Manor in North Bend.

He was born March 10, 1938, in Fremont to Jerry and Gladys (Mahel) Sokolovsky. Jerome grew up in Fremont and graduated from Fremont Senior High School. He then served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 26, 1962-Aug. 29, 1967, during Vietnam. He came back to Fremont and worked for Crown Cork & Seal until retirement. He worked for Midland College as a grounds keeper for a few years. He married Marilyn (Hull) on Aug. 27, 1983. She died on Oct. 8, 2016.

Jerome was a former member of American Legion Post 20 and FO Eagles 200, both in Fremont. He was a huge Husker fan and sports fanatic. Jerome collected over 15,000 ball caps and loved gardening, bowling and spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren.

Survived by sons, Rick Hanson, Deltona, Florida, and Rob Hanson, Fremont; daughter, Tamera (Jerry) Haugaard, Fremont; brothers, George and Joseph Sokolovsky, Fremont; sisters, Marilyn Hammang, Fremont, Mary Ann (Bernie) Hrdlicka, Mesa, Arizona, and Margaret Anderson, Lafayette, Louisiana; grandchildren, Dustin, Lacey and Caitlyn Venneman, all of Fremont; and great-grandsons, Trevor and Conner Brumbaugh, Fremont; sister-in-law, Sharon Wolfe, Fremont; and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents; wife; sister, Joan Eggers; sister-in-law, Iris Sokolovsky; and brothers-in-laws, Jerry Hammang and Warren Wolfe.

The funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Guests are encouraged to wear your Husker gear. Visitation is Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Moser’s. Visitation will continue on Wednesday 1 hour prior to the service.

Burial with Military Honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Memorials are suggested to the Fremont Veterans Park.
