John A. Haslam

John Alfred Haslam, 90, of Fremont died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, at Nye Legacy. John was born in Fremont on Nov. 9, 1927, in Fremont and was raised here, graduating from Fremont High School in 1945. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1945 and then served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Japan as a Medic. He returned to Fremont where he worked in several local businesses and was named acting Postmaster in 1956. He became a National Bank Examiner in 1958 then joined the National Bank of Commerce in Lincoln in 1968. In 1972 he was employed by Fremont National Bank where he retired as an officer in 1992.

He was a member of St. James' Episcopal Church, the Fremont Golf Club, a former member of the Fremont Rotary Club, the Fremont Chamber Legislative Committee, the Fremont Planning Commission and Financial Advisor of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

John was preceded by his wife, Judge Barbara 'Zip' Haslam; his parents, George A. Haslam, MD, and Gertrude; and his brother, George J. Haslam, MD.

John is survived by his son, J. Matthew Haslam, MD (wife Darcy) of Scottsbluff; daughter, Barbara Hartmann of Omaha; sister, Florence Shelso of Omaha; and four grandchildren, George and Samuel Hartmann, Roxanne Haslam, MD (husband John Mitchell, MD) and John Andrew Haslam.

The family would like to thank the Fremont Health emergency department and medical staff, third floor nursing, hospice and Nye Legacy for their exceptional care, and Rev. Scott Jensen for his care and support.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Dugan Funeral Chapel. Rev. Scott Jensen officiating. There will be no visitation. There has been a memorial established to the Dodge County Humane Society.
