Larry D. Layden, Lincoln, NE, born October 13, 1943 in Tecumseh, NE to James C. & Dorothy (Wilkinson) Layden. Graduated Valedictorian, Table Rock H.S., 1961. Larry passed away February 28, 2022 in Lincoln. Married to Maria (Lucha) Rios, May 20, 1974 in Lincoln, the love of his life. Attended UNL, Lincoln; Midland Lutheran College, Fremont, NE; Nebr Wesleyan Univ, Lincoln. Worked as Relief/Agent Operator for CB&Q Railroad; later as Tower Operator for the BN/BNSF RR, various locations. Retired, 44 years with RR; working last 30+ years, Carling Tower, Lincoln.

Larry was a great historian, sharing many stories regarding the railroad & his beloved hometown of Table Rock. He was an avid reader & eager for knowledge. He shared his knowledge & experiences with many; a great story teller. Larry was known for his keen wit & spoke 4 languages: English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Witticism. Sgt. Larry Layden proudly joined US Marine Corps 1964-67; Marine Reserves through 1970. Vietnam Veteran; stationed Okinawa; Radio Operator; Electronics & Vietnamese Language Schools. 50 year member Table Rock Legion.

Preceded in death: Parents JC & Dorothy Layden; In-laws Gabriel & Tomasa Rios; Twin Sister, Lois Gager; Sisters & Brothers-in-law, Betty & Lloyd Vrtiska; Beverly & Earl Wilcox; Nephews Kevin & David Wilcox. Survivors: Wife Maria; brother-in-law, Shad Gager, many beloved Nieces, Nephews, Cousins & Friends, including special Niece Joy Robison, Great Niece Gretchen Hess, Great Grand Nephew & Nieces Beau, Neely, Noelle & Bree Hess, treating them as his Grandchildren.

Services: Table Rock United Methodist Church, Saturday, March 5, 2pm. Visitation Friday, March 4, 9am-8pm. Burial: Table Rock Cemetery. Pastor Dorothy Smith. Lunch following. The service will be live streamed on Table Rock United Methodist Facebook Page. Memorials: TR Historical Society/Family Choice.
