Louise “Gus” Pearl Jacobson, 90, of Story City, Iowa, passed away on January 22, 2023, at the Households of Bethany in Story City.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Households of Bethany Chapel, 212 Lafayette Ave., Story City on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Elim Lutheran Church, 350 4th Street, Randall. Burial will be in the Mamrelund Cemetery.
Gus was born on August 30, 1932, to Fred and Agnes Gustin in DeSoto, Nebraska. She was a graduate of Blair High School, Midland College, Fremont, Nebraska, and Immanuel Lutheran School of Nursing, Omaha, Nebraska, where she received her Registered Nursing degree. Upon graduation, she worked at the Fort Dodge hospital.
On September 4, 1955, she married Ronald D. Jacobson at Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont, Nebraska. After marriage, they moved west of Randall, Iowa, where they lived until moving to the family farm east of Randall. To this marriage, three children were born: Shauna Jacobson of Ames, Iowa, Becky (Gary) Lorenz of Ankeny, Iowa, and Kevin (Susan) Jacobson of Jewell, Iowa. Gus was much loved by her grandchildren, Jessica (Ryan) Van Sloten, Christopher (Ashley) Lorenz, Stacy (Ryan) Herndon, Stephanie (James) Chance, Chelsie (Jacob Schuler) Jacobson and Tiffany (Ryan Nielsen) Jacobson. Also left to cherish her memory are eight great-grandchildren, Landon, Lyla, Hadley, Stella, Ava, Alyssa, Wynne and Everett.
Gus was involved with helping Ron on the farm - from walking beans, debeaking turkeys to skinning mink. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to read. She and Ron spent many hours at the Bertha Bartlett Library. Gus was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed women’s volleyball and softball. Coffee was always ready for anyone that stopped by, and she had a full tin of cookies any day of the week and fresh caramel rolls for the first weekend of pheasant season. She was active in the kids’ schools, and was a proud member of Elim Lutheran Church. We liked to call her the “church lady” as she served as chair of her circle, taught Sunday school, worked at the Norske Selskap and could organize food and workers for any event. She also served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Mamrelund Cemetery Board. We all enjoyed her teaching us how to make and roll lefsa. Her monthly luncheons with her friends were special. Gus and Ron enjoyed fishing and exploring parks. She loved being involved with her family, friends, church and community.
Gus is survived by her husband, Ronald, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her brother Raymond Gustin of Hickman, Nebraska, brother Fred (Connie) Gustin of Hickman, Nebraska, sister Sharon Dahl of St. Paul, Nebraska.
Gus was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law, James and Shirley Gustin, brother-in-law Denis Dahl, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lowell and Sandra Jacobson, nephew, Doug Jacobson, nephew Jerry Gustin.
