Mary Ellen Hancock, 88 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at the Good Samaritan Center Sunday evening, April 29, 2018. She was born on September 28, 1929 on a farm near Genoa, NE to Reynold and Mary (Parry) Berlin. She graduated from Genoa High School and attended Midland College. Mary taught country school for 1 year and also had worked in Omaha. Mary and Robert Hancock were married on September 10, 1950. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church was an elder, lifetime member of the UPW, and had helped with the church youth. Mary was a volunteer at the Beatrice Public Library helping with the summer children’s reading program; member of the Birthday Club and Morning Coffee Club; and had delivered Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, various hand work, but especially enjoyed her family, attending their activities, and preparing Sunday meals.

Survivors include her husband Robert; Children Janet Parde of Beatrice, Bruce (Linda) Hancock of Highlands Ranch, CO; Kathryn (Robert) Swanson of Lincoln; and William Hancock of Bonanza, CO; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; sister Betty Ann (Jerome) Greisen of St. Edward, NE; sister in law Bernetta Berlin of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 4, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend John Duling officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery. The body will lie in state Thursday from 10:00 AM-8:00 PM at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice with the family greeting friends from 6-7:30 PM, and not at the church. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 PM Friday at the church. A memorial has been established to the church with the funeral home in charge.
