Mary Janet Torrens
Mary Janet (Fenstermacher) Torrens, 97 years, of Fremont passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont. Mary Janet was born April 24, 1920, in Saunders County to Irvin and Irene (Loudon) Fenstermacher.
Her father died of a chronic illness when she was 5 years old, and her mother moved the family (three small children) from the farm to Cedar Bluffs to live with Janet’s grandmother, Mary Loudon. Her school years were spent in Cedar Bluffs, where she graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School in 1937. She attended Midland Lutheran College for one year. Mary Janet married David Leslie Torrens on May 15, 1938.
She is survived by her three children, Gary (Arlene) Torrens of La Grange, Kentucky, Judy (David) Roh of Fremont, Gene (Becky) Torrens of Elkhorn; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie Torrens; her brother; and her sister.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at The Presbyterian Church in Fremont. Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
