Michael McLaughlin '75

Michael Maurice McLaughlin, 70, of Missouri Valley, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb.

Prayer Service: 3 p.m., Sunday, March 18, with Visitation to follow until 5 p.m., at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 19, St. Patrick Catholic Church, Missouri Valley.

Officiating: Father Raphael Masabakhwa.

Musician: Ben McIntosh.

Music Selections: “Rock Of Ages,” “In The Garden,” “Be Not Afraid,” “Amazing Grace.”

Casket Bearers: Darrell Smith, Joe Spears, Jim Schwertley, Larry Meyer, Ralph Balsano, Paul Teal.

Final Resting Place: Calhoun Cemetery, Missouri Valley.

Military Honors: Conducted by Julius F. Muller American Legion Post #337 of Missouri Valley.

Lunch and Fellowship: St. Patrick Catholic Church Missouri Valley following the Committal Service.

Michael was born on Feb. 3, 1948, in Council Bluffs, to Maurice and Margaret Clara (Hassman) McLaughlin. Michael graduated from Maur Hill Prep School in Kansas. He attended Midland University and earned his degree in English.

Michael served in the Navy and was honorably discharged in May of 1972. 

Michael was married to Connie Longmeyer on Sept. 22, 1978. 

Michael was a District Manager for Dollar Tree Stores for many years.

Michael was a member of the Over 60 Card Club, Missouri Valley-Logan Country Club, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. He enjoyed his grandkids, gardening, golfing, watching soccer, and playing UNO.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Margaret Clara; stepfather, Don Schwertley; stepbrother, John Schwertley; stepsister, Ann Schwertley; brother-in-law, Jack O’Conner.

Survivors are his wife, Connie McLaughlin of Missouri Valley; children, Rebecca McLaughlin Noameshie and husband, Patrick, and Ryan McLaughlin and wife, Trista; grandchildren, Luke, Daniel, Mark, Kasey, Cassidi, Jessica, and Emily.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
