Midland Announces Changes to 2020-21 Academic Calendar

Monday, June 15, 2020

Midland University has finalized its plans to return to in-person instruction for undergraduate students on the Fremont campus for the fall 2020 semester. In an effort to limit travel and potential exposure to COVID-19, Midland has made several revisions to its 2020-21 academic calendar as it continues to prioritize the health and well-being of its students, faculty, and staff.

“We believe these changes will be beneficial for students as we move forward in our plan to have students on campus for in-person instruction this fall,” Midland University President Jody Horner said. “The new calendar gives us a great deal of flexibility in the event that the virus rebounds later in the semester.”

The start of the fall semester will remain unchanged with classes set to begin on Thursday, August 27th. Labor Day (Monday, September 7th) will be observed as a regular holiday with no classes that day. Fall Break, originally scheduled for October 22-23, will be canceled and classes will be in session those days. The final day of in-person classes for the fall semester will be Tuesday, November 24th and will be followed by a three-day break for Thanksgiving.

Monday, November 30th, will serve as a study day for students prior to finals, which will take place online from December 1-4. Interterm classes will begin on Monday, January 4th and are scheduled to take place in-person, but could be shifted to online instruction if necessary.

“We are committed to the safety of our students and will continue dialogue with our local health departments to determine the best course of action and be ready to make any necessary alterations to the schedule,” Horner said. “We are grateful for the support of everyone involved in this process and look forward to having everyone back on campus this fall.”

Schedules for graduate and professional studies classes at the Omaha campus remain unchanged.
