Midland University Welcomes Dr. Lawrence Chatters, '02, as the New Vice President for Student Affairs
Midland University recently announced that Dr. Lawrence Chatters has been appointed as the new Vice President for Student Affairs, effective January 7, 2019.
Dr. Chatters’ acceptance follows a national search and intensive vetting of an ample pool of well-qualified candidates. “Lawrence’s diverse professional experience brings a different, broader perspective to Midland than others might have,” said Midland University President, Jody Horner. “He is a gifted educator and we are thrilled to have him join our staff.”
Dr. Chatters comes to Midland from the Pennsylvania State University where he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services and an Adjunct Professor in the Counselor Education Department.
Prior to his time at Penn State, Dr. Chatters worked with students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in a wide range of capacities, including positions within Nebraska Athletics as the Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator, and in the UNL Women’s Center as the Men’s Program Coordinator. Dr. Chatters also worked as an academic advisor, course instructor and mental health counselor with focused efforts and experience in students’ mental, social, and emotional health, providing individual counseling, group counseling, inclusive outreach and crisis management.
Dr. Chatters’ experience is not limited to higher education, as he has also had success as a business owner and a philanthropist, raising funds to provide grants for children’s medical research across the United States.
"As a Midland University Alum, I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve as the next Vice President for Student Affairs,” said Chatters. “This is a full-circle moment for my wife and me. Approximately 20 years ago, I stepped on campus at Midland as a freshman with big ideas and expansive aspirations. During my time on campus, I met my wife Katie and numerous lifelong friends. I grew academically and spiritually and was mentored, nurtured, and challenged by the faculty, staff, and administrators. I am excited to come home and I am prepared to dedicate myself to servant leadership. I hope and pray that I can be instrumental in inspiring the next generation of men and women who choose Midland University as their home.”
