Morris R. Hilgenkamp, 90, of Kearney died Wednesday, Oct. 24, in Alma at the Good Samaritan Society Colonial Villa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Oct. 29 at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. James DeLoach officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later. Morris was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Arlington to Evie and Agnes (Hartung) Hilgenkamp. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Arlington. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1946 and then attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont. On July 9, 1950, he married Betty Jane Larsen in Fremont. They lived in Fremont and Ft. Dodge, Iowa, where Morris worked as a purchasing agent for Hormel Foods. They moved to Kearney and Morris worked as a buyer for Baldwin Manufacturing. Betty passed away in 2003. He later married Inez Harmoney. Morris was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, playing cards, hunting, fishing, and watching Husker football.
Morris is survived by his daughter, Cyndi McCoun and husband Mark of Republican City; sister, Jeanette Phillipi of Cheyenne, Wyoming; brothers, Arnold Hilgenkamp and wife Jan of Plymouth, Minnesota, Robert Hilgenkamp and wife Judy of Fremont; grandchildren, Jennifer Malenke, D. Malenke, Brian Malenke, Bruce Williamson, Marc Williamson and Chelsea, Dustin Williamson, Jennifer Blecha and Joel; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Morris was preceded in death by two wives, Betty J. Hilgenkamp, Inez Hilgenkamp; daughter, Cheryl Malenke; sister, Betty; twin sister, Doris; and granddaughter, Melissa Geiger-Williamson.
