Nathan MetschkeA celebration of life for Nathan H. Metschke, 40, of Neligh will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at the Elmer Lindahl Gymnasium at Neligh-Oakdale High School with the Rev. Bruce Phillips officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Neligh.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Neligh United Methodist Church in Neligh.

He died Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, in Omaha. Beyer Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Neligh is handling the arrangements.

Nathan Howard Metschke was born on Sept. 11, 1978, in O’Neill to Phillip and Maureen (Andersen) Metschke. He attended Chambers School and graduated with the Class of 1997. He graduated December 2001 from Midland Lutheran College. He started his teaching career at Neligh-Oakdale High School in January 2002 until present.

On June 5, 2004, he was united in marriage to Darcy Breithaupt in Fremont. He was involved in many things to do with teaching, music, the Neligh community, fantasy football, golf and just helping anyone — he was a very caring person. His family was his pride and joy.

Nate was a member of the United Methodist Church, NSBA (Nebraska State Bandmasters Association); NMEA (Nebraska Music Educators Association); Class C All State Band Board and Northeast Nebraska All Star Band Board. He received many awards such as the Jack R. Snider Outstanding Young Band Director and NMEA Young Educator of the Year. The most recent award was the “Touchdown for Teachers.”

Whether in a classroom or a cornfield, on social media, or just out on the street, he shared his positivity and love of life. He had a way of bringing joy and laughter to everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife, Darcy, and children Madison, Benson and Ansley of Neligh; parents Phillip and Maureen Metschke of Chambers; brothers Kent and Kim Metschke of Elkhorn,, Luke and Mary Metschke of Elkhorn, Dane and Ellie Metschke of Chambers; sister Emily and Derek Waits of Valentine; father- and mother-in-law Gordon and Gloria Breithaupt of Fremont; sister-in-law Kristy and Steven Broers of Fontanelle, Iowa; along with many uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces and many friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Save the New Moon Theater and United Methodist Church of Neligh.
