Rudy retired after 35 years in education as a secondary principal in the St. Paul Public Schools in St. Paul, MN. After graduating from Midland, Rudy was drafted and served in Vietnam as Naval Officer and retired as a Navy Captain (2006). He attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN (Masters in Education) and Minnesota State University Mankato in Mankato, MN (Specialist Education Administration). 

Rudy was inducted into the following Hall of Fames: Midland University, Omaha Technical High School, and Nebraska Black Athletes. Rudy married Arlis (Nelson) (Augustana University) on December 1, 1971, and they have five children. Rudy’s son Jesse attended Midland as did four other of his relatives. Rudy lives in Minneapolis, MN, and spends his time volunteering for numerous nonprofit organizations and working with higher education institutions.
