Louise Marcianne (Crantz) Benson went to be with her Lord and Savior on her 89th birthday, October 6, 2020. Louise was born in rural Phelps County, Nebraska to Ernest and Anna Crantz on October 6, 1931. She graduated from Holdrege High School and attended Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska, where she met Sterling (Bud) Benson. They married on May 20, 1951 and celebrated their 69th anniversary on May 20, 2020. To this union were born six children, Karin, Kristin, Carolee, Lori, Mark, and Beth. Louise and Bud lived in Holdrege, Nebraska until 1975 when they moved to Lindsborg, Kansas for Bud’s teaching position at Bethany College.

Louise had many talents; she was an accomplished pianist, seamstress, baker, hostess and cook. She had a flair for decorating. She served on the Lindsborg Meals on Wheels Board; coordinated and delivered meals for many years. She also served on the Lindsborg Tree Board when she first moved to Lindsborg. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and belonged to Hannah Circle. She helped make many quilts for Lutheran World Relief, often in the basement of her home with other members of Messiah. Louise was also a member of PEO. The family believes that her greatest achievement was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Ernest Crantz, her infant sister Ruth, her in-laws, Rev. John and Ruth Benson and Doris Benson, her brother John Vaughan and wife Edith, her sister, June Sodergren and husband Ray, brother-in-law Rev. Stanley Benson, and nephew Timothy Vaughan.

She is survived by her loving husband, Sterling (Bud), her children, Karin Walton (Brian), Lincoln, NE, Kristin Benson (Marty), Minneapolis, MN, Carolee Jones (Mark), Salina, KS, Lori Linder, Lincoln, NE, Mark Benson (Andy), Baltimore, MD, Beth Benson, Minneapolis, MN. Grandchildren, Nathan O’Connell (Paula), Thornton, CO, Jennifer Treadway (Joseph), La Vista, NE, Adam Jones (Natalie), Houston, TX, Erica Regan (Patrick), Lincoln, NE, Brooke Jones (Jared Hulstine), Sioux Falls, SD, Mark Linder, Orlando, FL, Jacob Linder (Alexis), Lincoln, NE, Tristen Baier, Minneapolis, MN, Benjamin Frank, Baltimore, MD. Great grandchildren, Reese Treadway, Beck Hulstine, Myles Jones, Marit Hulstine, and Cayleigh Jones and many nieces and nephews.

In compliance with Covid standards, the services will be held outside on Saturday October 10, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Swensson Park, 400 N. Main, Lindsborg, Kansas.

Memorials may be designated to the Sterling O and Louise M Benson Scholarship Fund at Bethany College.
