Jon Lee Olsen, 82, of Estes Park, CO died on May 30, 2023 following a brief illness. He was born on July 11, 1940, to Dewey and Inez (Daharsh) Olsen in Wahoo, NE. Jon graduated from Wahoo High School and Nebraska Wesleyan University. He taught Middle School in Steamboat Springs, CO and High School in Chadron, NE. Jon worked many summers at Cheley Camps in Colorado as a backpacking counselor and was instrumental in creating the Discovery Program. He also worked at Cabela’s in Sidney, NE.

Jon loved the outdoors, especially the Rocky Mountains, and in retirement he moved to Estes Park, CO. Jon volunteered over 8,000 hours in Rocky Mountain National Park where he shared his knowledge and love for the mountains with many thousands of park visitors at the Bear Lake and Longs Peak areas. He also spent time volunteering at the Eagle Rock School.

Jon’s family and friends will gather for a celebration of life at a later date.
