Gloria June (Paris) Wedergren was born March 15, 1931, to Manley Floyd and Ruby Ethel (Johnson) Paris on the Bert Keene Farm 4 ½ miles east of Fremont on Highway 8. She passed away on December 4, 2023, at Nye Legacy in Fremont, Nebraska, at the age of 92.
Gloria was baptized, confirmed, and married at the Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont. She attended the Brugh School District #37 and Fremont High School, graduating in May 1948. She attended Midland Lutheran College in 1949 and sang in the choir. While growing up, Gloria took voice lessons from Vern Johnson and Oscar Lyders at Midland Lutheran College.
Gloria married Raymond Earl Wedergren on July 23, 1961, and made their home on his parents' farm two miles south of Uehling, Nebraska.
They joined the First Congregational Church in Uehling until it closed and was taken down. While attending, she sang in the choir, served as Sunday School Secretary and as Women's Fellowship Treasurer. Also, through the church, she volunteered at the Uehling Auditorium auctions. Gloria sang at many weddings, funerals, and social events.
She was very fond of her grandchildren. She loved bingo and playing cards, especially Sheepshead and Thirteen Point Pitch, at family holidays and the Fremont Senior Center.
Gloria worked in Fremont at Gamble-Skogmo and Hammond & Stephens Company. After having their son, she continued as a sScretary in Uehling at the Farmers Co-op and Terra Chemical. She was active and served as an officer in several community organizations such as Wo-He-Lo Community Club, Uehling Area Community Club, and most notably, a 50 yr. member of L. Noble Lund American Legion Unit #196.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dr. Betty Joy (Paris) Cellers; brother-in-law, Dr. Warren "Ike" Cellers; niece, Connie Lou Cellers; and husband.
She is survived by her son, Cory Ray Wedergren, and daughter-in-law, Dr. June Sharri (Stoural) Wedergren; granddaughter, Ella Kate Wedergren; grandson, Evan Ray Wedergren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service is Saturday, December 16, 2023, 10:30 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland, NE.
Visitation is Friday, December 15, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Oakland. Burial at Swaburg Baptist Cemetery – rural Hooper, NE.
