A career in nursing was sparked for Jessica (Hunter) Guerrero '09 during her time at Midland University. “I appreciated all of the clinical experience I received during my time in the nursing program,” Jessica said. “It helped me determine what I wanted to do after school. I made some valuable connections during clinicals that helped me get a tech position that led to my nursing position later on. That position ended up growing into a leadership position over time, which was an incredible opportunity for me. My education at Midland set me up to go back and get my Masters and go on to teach in nursing programs.”
Jessica works as a Certified Health and Wellness Coach, a nurse, and an educator in St. Michael, Minnesota. She started her own business, This is Your Life Health and Wellness Coaching, and also serves as an adjunct instructor in the School of Medicine at Creighton University.
She felt an immediate rapport with the nursing program at Midland, a major reason she made the decision to make Midland her home. “I fell in love with the campus and had a great meeting with the director of the nursing program,” she said. “I also met with Janet Lack, Coordinator of the Academic Resource Center, who was one of the best humans and had so many wonderful things to say about the school.”
There are many great memories of Midland Jessica carries with her to this day, but the people she met along the way are the memories that resonate the most. “What I enjoyed most was the people I met,” she said. “The faculty truly cared about me as a student and that was a real gift. I made friends who are still in my life years later that I’m so grateful for.
“I loved being part of Phi Omega (sorority) and felt a sense of sisterhood and community with the group. We had a lot of fun and supported each other in life.”
In her spare time, Jessica enjoys knitting, reading, hiking, hammock time, and outdoor adventuring.”
