Midland University is proud to announce Emma Oborny ‘19 as its new Director of the Career Studio and Business Development.
“I’m so excited for this new opportunity,” Oborny said. “I feel like God always has a plan, and this is a perfect time for me. I’m already working on new ideas and processes and am ready to hit the ground running.”
Oborny has worked in the Institutional Advancement office since 2021 and will remain involved with the office in her new capacity. “I will still be working with business partners and outreach for sponsorships,” she said. “I also love working events, so I’m glad I will be able to keep that part of the job.”
For the past five years, Oborny has fostered relationships between business and Midland. She wants to continue building those relationships and incorporate the student aspect into that as well.
“I’m looking forward to growing our connection in the community and creating more opportunities for students,” she said. “I’m excited to learn more about the student experience and connect those students to businesses.”
In her time as a student at Midland, Oborny served as a work-study for two years in the Career Studio (formerly known as the Personal and Career Development Center) under former director Connie Kreikemeier.
“Connie gave me a lot of free rein, and she helped me get my first internship and job,” Oborny said. “I’m excited for this full-circle moment where now I can help students get that first internship, or a job after graduation.”
Laura Jensen, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, sees Oborny making a smooth transition into her new role. “Emma has done a fantastic job of building relationships between Midland University and local businesses,” she said. “She will be a valuable asset for students, whether they are looking for internships or full-time employment, in connecting them with future employers.”
Between her time as a student and employee, Oborny has dedicated nearly a decade of her life to Midland University.
“I love and adore Midland, so it’s easy for me to talk about Midland and sell it to businesses,” she said. “I went through some of the same things our current students are going through, and I want to help them as they work to figure everything out. I love the culture of Midland, and I’m excited to be here and hopefully make a difference in the lives of our students.”
