Mr. Mark L. Elwood, 69, Auxvasse, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 12, 2026. He was born in Primghar, Iowa a son of the late William and Millie Elwood. In July of 1977 he was united in marriage to Karen Ruwe who survives at their home.

Mark attended public schools in Akron, Iowa and Fremont, Neb. He graduated from Fremont Senior High School in 1974 and from Midland Lutheran College in 1978 with a bachelor of arts degree in English and secondary education, and a minor in music.

He taught in Wahoo, Neb., and Mexico, Mo., and was a newspaper editor in Wahoo; Kilgore, Longview and Denison, Tx; Picayune, Miss; Bella Vista, Ark; and El Dorado Kan. He was public information and publications director for Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Mo. where he taught journalism and photography, and produced the school newspaper and yearbook. He was Corporate Journalist for News Link in Lincoln, Nebr. Mark won numerous journalism awards and was cited in various books, newspapers, Web sites and magazines for editing, writing and photography.

Mark was a member of Grand Prairie Baptist Church in Auxvasse. His hobbies included coaching youth sports, community theater and singing in church choirs.

In addition to his beloved wife: Karen; he is survived by two sons: Nathan (Fiancé, Renee Elkins) Elwood, Travis (Michella) Elwood; brothers: Brian (Roxie) Elwood, Eric Elwood; sisters: Lori (Bob) Misfeldt, Amy (Steve) Frank, stepsister, April (Greg) Lorett.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents: William and Millie Elwood; and a sister: Julie Reddish.

Mark loved his family with all his heart and will be deeply missed.

Memorial service will be held at Fremont Alliance Church in Fremont, Nebraska on Oct. 10th at 10:30 for friends and family. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Memorials may be designated to Grand Prairie Baptist Church in Auxvasse, or Fremont Alliance Church.
