Edwin Wilder "Dutch" Feuerstein
Edwin Wilder "Dutch" Feuerstein of Fremont passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Nye Legacy Rehabilitation Center.
Dutch was born in Fremont on November 5, 1918. He attended Leshara Grade School and Fremont High School, graduating in 1935. He also attended Fremont's Midland College before starting work for Nebraska-Iowa Oil Company in Blair. Dutch enlisted in the Army Air Corps in July 1942, and he served as Pilot and Instructor for Army Air Corps until September 1945. Dutch farmed and was in the feed and grain business in Valley until 1962, when he moved to Fremont and established businesses involved in trucking, salvaging, grain and farm management.
Dutch was a member of several organizations that promoted Veterans affairs, including Valley's Masonic Lodge, Jester Court 19 in Omaha, and the Tangier Shrine. He was a lifelong member of Fremont Golf Club, and Fremont Presbyterian Church. Dutch was a brilliant storyteller. Many will remember how he could regale a room with anecdotes about breaking wild horses during the Great Depression, blowing shingles off farmhouses in his P-51, or surviving great romps far and wide with his many, dear friends.
He was preceded in death by parents; brother Don; sister Carol; and loving wife Lou (married March 5, 1971). Survivors include 3 daughters, Sarah (Gary) Wurtz, Chris (John) Roper, and Sue (Bob) Olsen; son Fred; 2 step-sons, Steve (Terri) Wegner, and Jim (Margie) Wegner; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. No Memorial Services or Visitation will be held, as was Dutch's wish. He was an important part of our lives, was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Memorials may be given to the Presbyterian Church in Fremont (520 W. Linden Ave., Fremont, Nebraska, 68025), or Church of your choice.
